Episode 6: Toshihiro Hirano OVA Special!

We’re back! A little bit later than we would’ve liked but hopefully you’ll find this one worth the wait. The subject of our episode director Toshihiro Hirano (AKA Toshiki Hirano) has had a rather diverse career taking on a wide variety of different genres and some of his forays into the mecha genre (particularly when partenered with Masami Obari and Noboru Aikawa) were definitely something special.

So for this episode we decided to take a look back to between 1987 and 1988 when he had 3 quite unique projects in production for studio AIC. Haja Taisei Dangaio (Great Planet Destroyer Dangaioh), Damaju Gekitou: Hagane No Oni (Battle Of The Great Demon Beasts: Demon of Steel) and Project Zeorymer (AKA Hades Project Zeorymer).
As well as reviewing these 3 quite different mecha shows we aim (as usual) to provide a bit of context about the industry at the time and speculate a little about how the tight production schedules of each show may have affected the final product.
If you haven’t seen any of these OVAs before we hope we have intrigued you enough to give them a chance.
